Did you know....???
"It takes 1,500 litres of water to produce 1kg of cereal and 15,000 litres to produce 1 kg of beef.
About two-thirds of the worlds population are vegetarian and one-third carnivores.
The area of land and the amount of water and energy required to produce meat are considerably greater than those needed for plants, and the pressure exerted on the environment for a predominantly meat-eating diet is irreversible.
Future generations will be deprived of vital resources if the modern world continues to consume such vast quantities of meat. Furthermore nutritionists have demonstrated that excessive consumption of meat may lead to cardivascular diseases and certain types of cancer.
A rational movement towards a more balanced diet - richer in fruit and vegetables and less dependant on meat - would be beneficial both to the planet and people."
FAO - Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations
